I am getting pumped for this summer! Nothing exciting happening, just figured it’s better to be positive than negative, especially with this heat beating down on everybody.
My little girl is doing great with her therapy, and almost her full range of motion back. We’re hoping that she’ll be fully healed soon too, since the Doctor took an X-ray and still wasn’t sure if the break had healed completely. Here’s hoping that nothing else happens (or breaks) this summer. Not sure I can keep back those gray hairs much longer if we keep having stuff like this happen often.
Of Course, I am still plodding away on writing, but I recently came to the realization that if I have a date in mind, or a goal to have something finished by a certain date I tend to write better. For “The Necromancer’s Deceit” I have been telling myself that it’ll be done when it gets done. But I don’t want that, not anymore. Before graduating from UVU, I could write quickly if it was an assignment, or a deadline that I had to meet. For this novel, I have decided that I am going to give myself a deadline to either beat, or make.
Here it is. This is my commitment that everyone can hold me to, which is that by December 31, 2021 I will have book 2 in this series I’m writing done. Now when I mean done, I mean a 1st draft. I’m not expecting it to be ready to publish by the end of the year, but I have written a 1st draft in a year so I know that I can do it again. Just need the encouragement and the set date to do it.
Of course I continue to world build in The Dark Lord series, I just hope that it’s grand enough for what I want it to be. I recently heard from Brandon Sanderson (a much more famous author than I am) who said that he spent 10 years developing his first Stormlight Archives book, The Way of Kings and I can’t even begin to think about sitting on an idea that long. But if I do, I hope it’s at least as good as his stuff. I can hardly put it down.
Now here is the short story that I promised. Muldrix. This story came to me as suddenly as did it’s creation. I’m hoping that you will enjoy it, as it brought me a smile many times while writing it and helped me think about the different ways in which stories can be told. If you enjoyed it as much as I did, I encourage you to share with your friends.
