It has been a crazy ride this summer. Yesterday I watched the season finale of Disney+ Loki, and I am dying for more!
This show was everything I wanted and nothing I expected. I just wish that it hadn’t left me with more questions than it gave me answers. I love the way they conveyed the message of how important it is to love yourself, and the miracles that come when you do. On the flip side, I love that they kept that mischief in there too as Loki’s description of what is love came true. At the end he reached out for that dagger and it literally vanished. At this point I have no idea if he and Sylvie will work out as a couple, but I just wish that I didn’t have to wait so long for season 2. I can definitely say that episodes 4-6 were by far my favorite and I can’t wait to see what will happen to the multiverse now that these two threw a wrench into the clockwork. I give the Loki series an 8/10.
Meanwhile my own writing is moving a pace. The Necromancer’s Deceit is finally starting to come along. After giving myself that deadline I have found the desire to write back, and it helped to remind me what other authors have said in that you don’t wait for inspiration/the muse to strike you, instead you seek it out, and that’s exactly what I have done. I haven’t gotten too far in the story yet, but it is moving along nicely.
I have also had the pleasure of reading a book series that I discovered last year. It’s the memoirs of Lady Trent by Marie Brennan and I have absolutely love the series. I discovered the first book, A natural History of Dragons last year but never got around to reading through all the series. But after having an extra credit with Audible I went ahead and got the first book again. I haven’t stopped listening since. I just finished the 3rd book last night and it was not disappointing. Marie Brennan is a master of mystery and suspense that I could not have fathomed from a first person narrative. And of course it has dragons, and I feel a deep connection to the book as it tackles one of those questions fans of dragons ask all the time which is, “What makes a dragon a dragon?” I keep reading in the hopes that she will answer this question and shed some light for me on what Marie Brennan believes the answer is. So far, I give the series a 8/10.
And while we are on the subject of dragons, I thought it’d be good of me to share an old favorite of mine that I recently came across again. The Dragonlance Chronicles! The first book in the series is Dragons of Autumn Twilight and I first discovered the book when I was a sophomore in high school. The books are based on the game of Dungeons & Dragons, but that shouldn’t deter you, if anything it should help add to it. The books follow a group of adventurers who unwittingly find themselves thrown into a war the likes of which their world has never seen. I would give this series a 9/10.
