New Year, New Ideas #AuthorLife

Welcome to month two of this new year, and Happy Valentines! Who knew that time would fly so fast? Or that ideas would abound in my head, making me wonder how I’m going to do it all?

The correct answer is one at a time, but first an update on my life, which will be exciting since in one week I will be in Disneyland with my family! To explain why I love Disney so much would mean going back to my early childhood and all the way into adulthood.

Well, perhaps it’d be better if I just summed up why I want to go. To put it simply, I just do. As a writer I believe in the magic of words and a good book in the hands of anyone can change their whole outlook on life, and Disney has definitely done that for me.

The best part of all is now I get to share it with my kids. I’m super excited to have this moment with them now that they are old enough to understand and remember and I hope to continue making wonderful memories they can cherish the rest of their lives.

Like I said before I’ve got a ton of ideas in my head that I want to write, but the problem is I don’t like waiting.

For example, about a week ago, I was online when I found this lovely gem https://mediachomp.com/medieval-star-wars-fantasy-fan-art/ where an artist had redone all the Star Wars characters in a fantasy setting.

Immediately I fell in love with a certain idea that came to mind, from looking at pictures like the one above, and instantly my brain tried to create a new story behind it. But that isn’t reasonable. I can’t keep getting excited about new stories to tell, but then still have a list of other tales that I’m working on. My list of books I’m working on must have a limit and adding another story to work on isn’t the solution that I need. Or is it?

Luckily, the solution that I did reach has me quite happy about where I’m at.

Now while I have still added another story to my list of things I’m working on, I have devised a way to help me keep it functional and not overwhelming. The list of stories that I am currently working on is:

The Necromancer’s Deceit – the sequel to the book I finished writing back at the beginning of 2021.

Peter and the Staff of Destiny – a novel about my son and the adventures he will have in a magical world.

The Familiar – The latest ideas inspired by the artwork with an old storyline I scrapped a few years ago and now hoping to attempt to write another YA epic fantasy. This story is inspired by the first book that I wrote and gave an ending and then dumped after realizing it wasn’t going to be the first book that I published. I tried to redo it a few years ago for a NaNoWriMo but it never caught on in my head and so I forgot about it. Now that I’ve had this epiphany, I’m revamping it and changing it up into a story that I am going to love writing.

Muldrix – a serialized story about a dragon and the human who adopted him and their adventures in their world together. I have been publishing this story bimonthly on this website and at the end of this post will be the pdf link of the fourth chapter in their story.

These are the four stories I am currently working on and am finding new ways to pace myself. For now, I am working/writing a chapter for one book, and when that is done, I switch to the next in line. It sounds exhausting but I find it refreshing. It helps keep me interested in what I am working on by giving me a break from the other characters and then interacting with the next set for a while. It has also been helping me to have a deadline for one story that’s every other month, and so giving me something to work forward to as I work on these stories. I don’t know if this process will speed up my writing, but for now I am intrigued by it and will continue to see if this way of writing will work for me.

And what about the Dark Lord series that I was/am working on? Well, I am still interested in writing it, and have been still building/outlining the story, the problem is that I have 3-4 stories that are already at the front of my mind. Even though this one still pops up there occasionally, I know that it’s not ready for work just yet until I have a few more things figured out in the story line.

The fourth installment of Muldrix is now ready for your enjoyment here! Please like and share so others can enjoy the journey! I am still looking into the best way to share these stories as an epub document that everyone can upload to their favorite ebook reader, but for now pdf will have to be the document of choice until I can find out the best way to get this story to everyone.
