March, March, Time Marches On!

So much has been happening in the last month, it makes it hard to find a place to start talking about it.

As you may have noticed I now have my own domain, which is nice and helps me feel more accomplished as an author. The other thing you may have seen is that I have redesigned a couple parts of it. With having over a years’ worth of posts I decided to make it easier to find them, plus it helped to clean things up a bit. Please feel free to explore the pages and see what else I have to offer.

I guess I can tell you how our vacation went to Disneyland went, after all it was the highlight of my last post. Awful. It was awful. And yet it went better than we could have ever imagined! The drive down was going exactly as we had planned…until we passed Vegas. My wife and I had apparently planned our trip at the wrong time (President’s Day) and we ended up getting stuck in traffic with everyone trying to go home from the 3-day weekend. By the time we reached our hotel, our 10-hour drive had turned into a 15-hour drive. From that point on we vowed never to drive on a holiday weekend when everyone was heading back home, or to fly instead.

Despite the setback of unexpected traffic, the visit to Disneyland went perfectly. The kids were fascinated by everything Disney had to offer, and they even got to meet some of their favorite Disney characters while there. They loved the rides, they loved the food, and they loved the magic that was all around them.

My son and I got a special treat while there. On the last day, we had him go through the droid depot and build his own Astromech droid. He could have used any parts and had any kind of droid and he built R2-D2. To be fair R2 is a pretty cool droid, I had just assumed he would have picked/done a red color since that was his favorite. But it all worked out in the end, and he is loving the idea that the toy is all his to play with. Now if we can only get the remote to work farther than 5 inches away.

After the visit to the depot, he and I went over to Savi’s workshop for the lightsaber build. This was my souvenir as I have always wanted to own a high-quality lightsaber but never got around to it. To be fair it may not be for high quality dueling, but it would be cool to whack it around a bit on another saber with my son or brothers.

The hilt that I chose was “Protection and Defense.” I chose that style just because the “Power and Control” was familiar to me as a more Sith looking hilt, and “Peace and Justice” fit in with what I had seen the jedi use throughout the movies. That left it between “Elemental Nature” and “Protection and Defense.” Maybe next time I will go with “Elemental Nature” but for now, the one I have is perfect. The only downside I had to the whole thing was I didn’t have enough money to buy more Kyber crystals to change the color of the blade. I was able to buy a yellow crystal though, so now I can switch between the green and yellow.

The experience in the room we built the sabers was awesome! The cast were well in their respective parts, and it almost felt like I was in a Star Wars movie. The whole time we were there, my son kept pointing out what we were doing and asking me questions. I was sure he was more excited we were there than I was. I look forward to the day when I can take him through this experience and have the chance to share it together with his own lightsaber he can claim.

As you might imagine I did not get the chance to do a ton of writing since we were at Disneyland for a week, and the week before was spent packing and getting everything ready. And because life likes to test us, everyone got sick once we got home. So, for the past 3 weeks I have had little to no writing time. Luckily, I just got done working on a chapter for “The Necromancer’s Deceit” and I have now moved on to the next chapter in the Muldrix series.

Just a reminder on the Muldrix series. This has only been edited by me and has only passed through 1-2 people (if that), so if it is not a fully polished story that you are expecting I am sorry. I have only ever meant for this to be a fun way for me to self-publish my work with no qualms about who sees it other than it is out there. If, while reading them, you ever do find grammatical, or continuity errors then please tell me. I am always willing to hear through feedback how I can better improve my craft.

On a side note, I don’t believe I have ever shared the first chapter to “March of the Necromancer.” This has been through a lot of editing and I’m hoping that you all enjoy it. I will not be posting the rest of the chapters on here, since I hope to traditionally publish, but I figured this would give you all a chance to see what else I am working on.
