First Time for Everything

This past week has been a wild ride. As far as we could tell, this was my family’s first encounter with COVID-19 (confirmed through test), and it hit us all hard. I was the first (my wife and I think our son actually had it first, but they say that COVID doesn’t affect kids as much, so we didn’t think too much of it at the time), and then it quickly spread to my wife and kids within a day or two. It was like an extremely bad cold that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

The first day I was just realizing I had it as slowly my body began to feel colder than it should (it was about 80o F outside). I finally realized I had it as the day ended, and while I went to sleep quickly enough it was not a peaceful rest. I’ve been listening to the Mistborn series for the first time, and I had some vivid dreams about the plot while waking up and trying to find the strength to get some ibuprofen. The next day was spent lying in bed and watching movies and listening to audio books while I napped in between. It wasn’t exactly a relaxing day.

The third day got a little better, but not really. I wasn’t having hot flashes anymore, and my fever was still there but more manageable. The worst of it was that I still felt weak, tired, and wanting it to be done. By Friday I could now reasonably move around the house and help and take care of the kids. This was good because, as I mentioned before, the others got sick too, so as I recovered the rest quickly showed signs of now being sick. This was especially true of my wife who is always more affected by illness than the rest of us. So now that the only thing that I’ve got left is a stuffy (and sore) nose it’s my turn to be the caretaker of the family until we are all feeling 100%.

On the plus side of things, I wrote a whole chapter in one of the stories that I have been working on. I wasn’t expecting that because typically I can only get an hour or two of writing time at most each day, and in two days (about 5-6 hours altogether) I ended up writing over 3500 words. I wasn’t expecting that since it happened on my second and third days of feeling sick. It was by the end of the second day that my brain decided it would be good to write again, and I was just feeling well enough that I could at least sit up rather than lying in bed. I figured that would be a better use of my time instead of just watching a movie.

On that note, I was able to finish the next part in the Muldrix story, now I just need to edit it. I have started a Patreon account and will be moving some things there too, which means I will want to review and edit all my stuff before putting it on there. Plus, I tested it and I can actually publish epub docs on there much easier than I can here. I will still continue to use this site as it is already in my name and I would like to use this site to sell books once they are fully written and published.

I look forward to next month when I will be able to publish the next Muldrix short. Hopefully, I can get ahead of these so I can start publishing them monthly rather than bi-monthly. See you all next month!
